My all time favorite Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood announced his retirement after playing 17 seasons. I got to see Osgood "up close and personal" when he was with the St. Louis Blues for a brief 2 years.
Congratulations to Chris Osgood (#30) on becoming the 10th goalie in NHL history to win 400 games.

My beloved Red Wings swept the Columbus Blue Jackets in 4 games. It was a great series even though Game 3 and 4 were not shown on Versus or any of the channels in St. Louis. The reason could be because the St. Louis Blues team did not want to show how much better the Red Wings are since the Blues were swept by the Canucks. Thanks to Johan Franzen "the Mule" with his power play goal with 46.6 seconds left in the 3rd period in game 4, the Red Wings completed the Series in style. It was good to have a few days off but I hope the guys will be ready for the next Round. And then there are 8! 
My beloved Wings won Game 1 tonight 4-1 over the Columbus Blue Jackets. 
It was another great game last Saturday, March 14th when the Red Wings repeated their victory 5-2 over St. Louis Blues. It was the 2nd time, 11 days to be exact, that the Wings gently reminded the Blues and other teams at their quick-strike offense, strong defense and solid goaltending. Pavel Datsyuk, the king of backchecking and pucks stealing, scored twice in the 2nd period. The Wings' three consecutive shots in a 46-second at the beginning of the 2nd that took the air out of the Blues and put the game away. The Wings have won five straight in St. Louis. 
The Red Wings wiped out a one-goal deficit and rallied to a 5-2 win over the Blues. In previous Wings v. Blues games, my husband usually had friendly wagers with someone, "Jack", who was a former co-worker, for a beer after the 1st period. For almost two years, Jack has been buying beer as the Wings always scored first and held on to the leads. This time, Jack wanted to change the wager to the 2nd period. Bad move for Jack as the Blues led 1-0 after the 1st but the Wings striked back with 4 goals in the 2nd. Final score was 5-2 Wings. Maybe next time Jack would learn his lesson and just buy the beer without betting :)

Congratulations to my Beloved Detroit Red Wings for being the First Team to reach 100-points this season. This is the Wings' 18th straight and the league's longest active streak. Red Wings now has nine straight 100-point seasons. (For the records I did not make these cupcakes. I did put the Red Wings stickers on the cupcakes before passing them out to all the "losers" in my office - haa haa).

My Beloved Red Wings came into St. Louis on Tuesday (March 3rd) night and played the best hockey game of the season. Osgood was so good, recorded his first shutout in a 5-0 victory over the Blues. It was a great night, both offensive and defensive and definitely solid goaltending. 
Center Ice - it was the start of a great night. Shorthanded goal, power play goals, a good fight that last 1 minute and a half and seeing all my favorite players on the ice - how could anyone not love hockey? 
Goalies are different - a puzzling group of unique athletes who form an almost secret society. A goalie knows he is the last line of defense, often the final person standing between victory and defeat, often blamed when the puck got inside the net but not given enough credits when the team won.
Chris Osgood is one of the brave masked men who guard the net for the Detroit Red Wings, stopping slapshots travelling 100 mph. Need proof that Osgood is So-Good? How about two Stanley Cup Championships?
Goalies such as Terry Sawchuk, Patrick Roy, Ed Belfour are known for being a little wacky. Goaltenders have always been special hockey players. And they are accentric, superstitious and do peculiar things. After all, only a brave man would stand between the posts, get ready to greet those bone-cracking slapshots and try to stop the icy puck with his body.
The last goalie to play without a mask was Andy Brown in 1974.
